In 2012 my wife and I were enjoying watching the DVD's from the Christian Heritage home education conference in Washington when we considered what like this was available to Christian home educators in the UK. There are a number of different home education conferences available but none that we knew (or know) of that we felt really focused on the biblical basis for home education. This after all is the reason that we started home educating our children, because we believe that this is what the bible teaches is the right thing to do. So instead of just thinking it would be a nice thing to do we decided that we would start one.
The first thing we had to do was think of who, when and where? Pastor Neil Winterton offered us the us of the church in Mow Cop which is used for a number of different home education activities, now including as an exam centre. The who proved more difficult as we didn't know of anyone who taught on this area in the UK and time was short, so we though that we would just use the DVD's we had benefited from. So in September 2012 we held our first home education encouragement morning.
We have repeated this for the past 3 years with a small number of local home educating families in attendance. We have been trying for over a year to actually get a real person as a speaker and last year we heard that Voddie Baucham would be coming over to the UK and that he could come and speak for us. So this year we decided that we would make the event far more widely advertised and see how many people would like to come to this conference.
We hope that this will be a truly enjoyable time and we look forward to seeing where the conference may lead to next year.
